When root canal therapy and other restorative dentistry measures cannot successfully repair a tooth, your dentist may determine that an extraction is necessary. We wish that we could save every tooth. Extractions may also be necessary in order to reduce crowding prior to orthodontic treatment, to remove teeth that have been compromised due to periodontal (gum) disease, or to eliminate infections.
In most situations, depending upon your health and dental anatomy, our office is able to perform simple and surgical extraction in our office – saving you the hassle of traveling to an oral surgeon.
Your dentist will administer local anesthetic to numb the area and ensure you are comfortable during the entire procedure.
Minor discomfort and bleeding may occur. The use of prescribed medication or over-the-counter medication may be necessary to control discomfort.
If any problems or concerns arise, please contact our office immediately.
